This email is applicable to all IPA dancers, whether you are a seasoned competitor, Ballet only student or a casual student, and is in regards to our end of year concert – our annual show that all IPA dancers perform in (including non-competitive) and is a highlight of our year.
Miss Sam & I can now confirm the concerts dates.
Before we do, there are some fairly big differences this year. Previously we have had a full week of concert rehearsals, theatre bump-in plus two shows on one large (but exciting) concert day which we have held previously at the Mount Nelson Theatre. Due to renovations of the Mount Nelson theatre where no bookings were taken in 2019, we have had to source other venues – which was very limited and sent our usual concert plans out the window. So we have had to alter our plans to fit and work around with what bookings we could secure.
We are splitting our concerts into Junior & Senior. This year we will hold two different concerts (junior & senior), on two different days (see below), at two different venues (also see below) AND will bump in, rehearse and perform ONE SHOW ONLY all on your allocated concert day (YIKES!). It may be different to previous years, however a great event as usual and we may even love the changes!? Whats important is that all dancers will still get to perform and by splitting the concerts (into junior & senior) we now have room to include more items ensuring dancers get as much stage time as possible and we use our costumes again. Both concerts will be themed quite differently with the focus being on our dancers, the year that was and celebrating IPA.

The downfall of not securing our usual venue and concert dates due to the renovation is of course the commitment across two weekends rather than one. We appreciate this is a big ask of our families who have dancers across the two age groups – however will do what we can to assist you and make it a smooth process for all (another reason we have narrowed our rehearsals and bump-in to one day). In addition the costing of tickets will be re-looked at for those that have dancers in both concerts, for dancers that wish to watch the alternate concert and parents that purchase tickets to both. All of these things we are taking into great consideration to make it work for our families.
For most dancers, you are only required to commit to one concert (your relevant age group – see list above), however some dancers participate in older age groups and this is where you may find that your dancer is required to perform at both concerts and across both weekends. If this is going to be a problem for you then please feel free to discuss it with us as a priority.
Dancers will be looked after by staff & crew backstage at both concerts allowing all parents to watch their dancers without the pressure of dressing etc mid show.
We know you will have lots of questions, however we too are still processing both events and the running of them ourselves. We have just signed off on our contracts and can now move forward with production planning, concert day schedules and performance run sheets. Further information will be sent home as we confirm it.
A reminder that our concert dates are put out at the beginning of the year and is an important event in our calendar. Regardless of whether you compete, all dancers do perform in the end of year concert and is essential to our dancers growth – it is such a great day for all of IPA and know we are here to guide you through the pressures of getting your dancer onstage :).
For all our dance mum’s of little ones… trust me, they will have the best time and it’s hard to believe they will actually do it, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised – they are trained to perform and our teachers talk our babes through the process so that they are very prepared – they are the highlight and there will be tears…. from our mums of course!
If you have any queries or are confused as to your dancers concert commitments and expectations please contact us in the office asap.
